RECOLLECTION
NOVEMBER – 2023
THEME: RE- DISCOVERING CHRISTIAN IDENTITY WITH MOTHER VERONICA.
It means a) To live as Christ.
- b) Christ to live in us.
Every individual could be compared to a ship sailing in the waters of life, persevering through the deep waters, rising waves and emerging storms that are inherent part of everyday life. As we become part of a Congregation or a Province or a Community, this imagery reminds us that we need to work in unison with our hands on deck, oars in the water, pulling in the same direction. And with Christ as a navigator to guide us, the ship cannot flounder, it will reach its destination.
“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you and before you were born, I consecrated you”. Jer 1: 5
Mother Veronica as Sophie Leeves was engaged to a Naval Officer but she felt something was lacking in the relationship. Soon a great change took place in her heart. Sophie gave up all the earthly pleasures and treasures to embrace God alone. She re-discovered her identity in the person of Christ by vowing to follow her Good Shepherd wherever He will lead her.
Dear Sisters, God has chosen each one of us and designed us using His unique way, for a purpose, mainly to serve His people. There are times when God is calling you to swim into deep waters, to go somewhere where you have never been before. To get there, you have to re – discover Christ, you have to focus on Christ.
To re-discover your CHRISTIAN identity.
- Remember you are an image bearer
- Trust in God
- Ask God how He sees you.
- Move forward in revelation not imitation.
- Surrender yourself to God.
Mother Veronica’s heroic obedience to the Will of God, her life of increasing prayer and heroic charity, her deep faith in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, her loyalty to the Catholic Church, her wholehearted commitment to the Cross, her outstanding humility and zeal for the mission, her vision of education for the integral development of persons, especially the girl child with an emphasis of faith formation and prayers, remain an inspiration to all those who follow the footsteps of Jesus.
Having a rock-solid understanding of your identity in Christ is essential, to live your life as He inteded. To find your identity in Christ is to feel grief at what grieves Christ and to unite around what He values. And that includes not just ideals but people also.
The beautiful life of Mother Veronica, our Foundress is a constant inspiration to all of us, to strive for what is good, noble, true and lasting. May the values she upheld and lived for, guide us to make right choices in our own lives.
Mother Veronica dedicated her whole life to prayer and renunciation. She was a true beacon of light. Her exemplary and saintly life, faith and courage in challenging situations and her love for God are values that need to be cherished and imbibed. When we make the right choices, we become beacons of light to others. Here we can say Mother Veronica is a beacon of light to us because of the right choices she made in her life.
Mother Veronica was a woman who came out in an ecclesial and human context in which she had to live with much mental strength. This is seen in her human and spiritual personality, in her decisive will to follow the ways of the Lord, sometimes mysterious and unknown. Her ardent love for the person of Christ is vividly seen in her generous service to the Church, in her missionary activities, first as the Religious of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Apparition and then as a Carmelite.
In my life as a true CHRISTIAN
- Do I love all the people around me?
- Do I forgive all the people around me?
- Do I pray for everyone?
- Do I follow the teachings of Jesus Christ?
- Do I trust my God ?
- What is my identity as a Christian? In which way my life resembles to that of Christ?
