As Christians, one of the greatest blessings is to realize that in spite of our humble background, we have been chosen by God to experience His goodness. I realized that serving Him is a thousand times better than enjoying the fleeting pleasures of this world. However, being chosen and blessed is not only a privilege but also a great responsibility. I am indeed happy to be His spouse.
I, Sr. Philomena N.M., was about seven years old when I first came into contact with the C.T.C. Sisters. I began my schooling at Little Flower Convent School in Panaiakulam, Aluva. From my early childhood, I had a strong desire to become a religious sister, as I was blessed to live close to the convent where the Sisters resided—it was just a five-minute walk from my home.
It was during Catechism classes that my teachers shared stories of various saints. One particular story—the life of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus—told by my catechism teacher deeply touched my heart. Even today, it remains vivid in my memory. Those Sisters were true role models to me, and I firmly believe it is because of their inspiring witness that I am a religious today.
My family remains closely associated with the C.T.C. Sisters even today. After my SSLC examinations, they arranged for me to attend a vocation camp and kindly took me along. Sisters from various congregations had come to present their charisms and share about their mission, lifestyle, and apostolates. Informative posters were displayed about the novitiate and the journey of formation. Among them, the CCR Sisters stood out as very informative, engaging, and spiritually uplifting.
Sr. Lora and Sr. Helen from the CCR had come with a few aspirants and spoke to us. Their simplicity, joy, and conviction touched me, and it was during this camp that I decided to join the Congregation of the Carmelite Religious. While the C.T.C. Sisters were disappointed with my choice, I felt a strong sense of peace and purpose in my decision.
I still vividly remember the day before I joined. I went to the convent to bid farewell to the Sisters. My Principal, Sr. Ephram, told me, “The jasmine flower in your courtyard has no fragrance.” Though her words were disheartening, they did not shake my resolve. I knew in my heart that God was calling me, and I was ready to follow Him with love, faith, and trust.
